Just like you was very informative. I was surprised to see how much my 4 year old daughter knew about the careers discussed in this book. We had very insightful talks about the careers, but most importantly it was an inspiration as a parent to continue to lead by example so that no matter what career path your children choose, they ultimately want to be great just like you.
I think this book will be enjoyed by young readers of preschool and elementary age!
Just Like You is the beautiful story of a young African American girl talking with her mother about what she can be when she grows up. I love the young girl's first question of "Mommy, why do I have to go to school today?" and her mother's response of "So that you can be whatever you want to be when you grow up." This multicultural family tale has a very positive message told through innocent life questions of a young child. Normal everyday questions lead to discussions about possible career choices for the girl when she grows up. Love the adorable ending and vibrant illustrations.
I received a copy of this book from Mascot Books in order to review Just Like You for Multicultural Children's Book Day.
I bought this book from the author
herself and she even made it out to my 3 year old daughter (that made her day when she saw it because she’s learning how to write her name) . I read it to her the same day and she loved the beautiful pictures as well as her favorite line from the book “I think so”. Very well done and great for all kids!
